Aaron Shackell dominated the 400 freestyle to kick off an epic USA Olympic Trials, earning a trip to his first ever Olympic Games in Paris. Aaron joined us to chat following his experience in Paris, where he swam a personal best time in the prelims and qualified to race in his first Olympic final.
This season has been a journey for Aaron, as he changed training programs a couple times while searching for the speed he showcased as a junior, ultimately finding it in a big way at the right time. Aaron comes from a swimming powerhouse family. His sister Alex Shackell was also a part of Team USA Swimming at the Paris Olympics where she earned gold and silver medals from her preliminary relay swims, their brother Andrew is part of Team USA, representing the stars and stripes at Junior Pan Pacs, and parents Nick and Ali were both All-American swimmers at Auburn, with Nick representing Great Britain at the 1996 Olympic Games.
Next, Aaron Shackell heads to the University of Texas where he’ll be joined by younger brother Andrew. Enjoy and don't forget to subscribe for weekly podcasts and daily shorts!
