““Southern Child” from the eponymous (Lordy I hope the ginger bow-owner is reading this) southern rock album, was written and originally performed by Little Richard in 1972. Despite how much butt it kicks, and artwork consisting of a picture of Little Richard making kissy faces while wearing a fur vest, no shirt, and milking a Holstein, the album was shelved by Reprise Records and didn’t see the light of day till 2005. The title track’s brilliant 2020 cover by Blackberry Smoke just serves as further proof that what makes one Southern ain’t your race, genre, hair length, or broadhead choice, but rather the grease in yer groove and the honey on yer tongue. Five stars.
PS: Jacob’s dating profile should state that he is looking for a woman with very large tracts of land. LITERALLY.”
