Chip needs to learn how to TRULY listen
Loved the recent episode with Mama. But listening to this first episode has been very triggering for me (as someone who often feels unheard in my own partnership). Chip is not only interrupting Jo, but also finishing her sentences… and instead of letting her express her experience the way she perceives it, he is influencing everything she says. At times he is even dismissive. Chip will never be able to understand the experience of growing up biracial in America. So let her share how she felt and tell her story instead of saying “why didn’t you perceive being different as an advantage?” 🙄 I think her experience is totally valid and his whole attitude invalidates her in every exchange. I felt smothered listening to him, he is not accustomed to being in the passenger seat.
