Astonishingly boring
I listened to three episodes of The Sunshine Place. Of every story that I have heard on cults this has to be the most uninteresting I have ever encountered. The narration is simply unforgivable and has all the charm and enthusiasm of a detached and half unconscious child made to practice reading aloud in class. Sari seems to only be aware that words exist and that they must be spoken, but also that every statement should be uttered with the same inflection, tone and volume without variation. The subject matter is equally bereft of interest. Superfluous and inconsequential characters are repeatedly introduced, described laboriously-as if there was a need for more filler material when there is already plenty of padding-and then abandoned. Also, the disciples of synanon were subjected to the most atrocious and rigorous abuses known to man. Things as awful as exercising, making beds, getting up early, and sitting in group discussions with ex-junkies. oh god! And it gets worse. Food was prepared, haircuts were given and music was created. Eventually, the group starts a jam band that somehow was even worse than the grateful dead. Where is Janet Reno when you need her to do an ill-advised raid and set a compound ablaze. Im not sticking around for part 4. I want 3 hrs of my life back.

I knew about this cult because I lived close to them. Wow crazy stuff was going on behind those walls.

There’s so much to learn about what a strange species we humans are.

The first episode really grabbed my attention but every episode after that only had miniscule interesting bits. Feels like just a lot of added filler to make the episodes longer. I'm not continuing this podcast for that reason.Read full review »
