“As a Superfooty Podcast listener since its inception, there was definitely a change with Sam out / Lauren in. Without knowing any concrete reasons, the deliberate inclusion of female contributors is well understood and accepted.
Even last years turnstiles effort where we didn’t know who would turn up from week to week (shout out to Jon Anderson as B.O.G. for regular contributor) .
I do not know if ratings were flagging or other reasons ???? , but the inclusion of the Herald Sun’s Chief Reporter, Mark ‘Robbo’ Robinson, is not the fix.
I have followed Robbo for a number of years, especially in his opinion articles and enjoyed them. I have watched AFL 360 for the first time this year and seen EVERY episode . So perhaps it is just ‘Robbo poisoning’.... LOL.
No. Robbo chooses his style either carefully or is just him and is brash, always strongly opinionated and has skin thickness inconsistencies. And I do not believe his journalist dictionary has the correct definition for sensitivity.
However this is not the main reason for his poor fit for this podcast, it is that it is obvious when everyone else argues or has an opinion they are treated equally, the banter ( the key ingredient in sporting commentary chemistry ) comes thick and fast and people laugh it all off and roll up for the next topic.
Robbo is always looking for a hard edge which works in some formats but cannot roll with the punches and is not ‘a man of the people ‘ when it comes to his ideas on what needs to be discussed. For example, wanting to discuss the vandalism of the celebrating crowd of the Richmond win is the antithesis of this podcast. Nothing to do with the game, not light hearted and not want people are tuning in to listen to. When Mick Warner had to come out and actually tell Robbo NO, well besides dead air, the thickness of Robbo’s skin was inversely proportional to the air around it.
Bring back Sam, rotate some other journos but changing the logo with Robbo in it will not save this podcast.”
