Dr Amie is my new bff
Seriously, what a Godsend. I had a major shift in health in early 2021 after the vaccine. It was swift and aggressive. Long story short, after 12 doctors (3 of which were ER’s), nobody would help me. I thought I was going to die, my kids thought I was going to die. I researched constantly with my goldfish brain. I kept telling doctors it felt like a deficiency. Only two out of the 12 believed me when I said that, but they tested electrolytes, magnesium and B12. I never had a known deficiency before, but somehow I KNEW. After a month of being sick with poor vision, feeling disconnected, nausea, dizziness, extreme lethargy amongst many more symptoms I found Iron Deficiency (Dr. Esa Soppi’s journal also changed my life)“Surely they would have tested me for the most common deficiency in the world”, I thought. So I educated myself on iron. I found “Iron Deficiency without anemia” and learned that they never tested my ferritin. I figured this out after about doctor #7 and one ER visit. I had shortness of breath, zaps in my brain and went to the ER and begged them to test my ferritin. The doctor mocked me. I went to another ER, got another horrible response. I went to the VA and asked them- they said they would test it but they did an iron panel instead. I trusted my instinct and I can’t explain why, but I KNEW it was iron even though I couldn’t get a proper test. As a 9 year vegetarian, I ate a steak. I took iron (max limit for my weight). I studied. I studied more. 4 days later I could walk to the mailbox. I kept studying. 9 days later I could work and main symptoms were gone. I tested myself and my ferritin was an 8 (optimal is 100). I studied iron so much that I now confidently understand all of the lab values and how iron is processed in the body. Even the integrative doctors didn’t know how to properly read the iron labs (for example, high TIBC is another indicator of deficiency, but this is not commonly known). it’s mind boggling. After a few months, I got my ferritin to rise to above 50. Symptoms I didn’t know were related started to disappear. I lost any faith I used to have in the medical industry. They caused me SO many tears, and so much pain. That started a journey that led me to the naturopathic world, or what I call “the red pill”. I had subclinical hypothyroidism. In late 2022 I got diagnosed with hashimotos (triggered by iron deficiency). Nobody has been able to completely make me feel better. My past integrative doctors have been afraid of suppressed TSH even though my T3 is on the low and of the range and my T4 is low. They stop at the “10mcg limit of T3”, They still don’t check my ferritin EVEN after my history, I’ve had to ask every time or just order my own labs. They’ve been afraid to give me hormones. Then I found Dr. Amie. Since my journey started I have been absolutely obsessed with ferritin, iron, vitamins, minerals, thyroid, hormones and anything health related. Dr. Amie has been the best resource I have found to date. I listen to these podcasts daily, and she has changed my life. Every thing she says is spot on and I can correlate a lot of it with my own experiences. I learn from her every single day. She talks about optimal lab levels and she makes a lot of us feel heard. I signed up for her program and after one convo I noticed that she also has this amazing open mind. She’s helping so many people feel better and see light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t give up on you, let her change your life too.
