Description
Season 1, episode 2 Laura speaks to award-winning travel photographer and writer, Yulia Denisyuk, who turned her back on a six-figure salary in the corporate world to pursue her dreams of becoming a travel photographer. It was a big risk, but one which paid off. Yulia reveals what it's really like to work as a travel photographer and writer, her favourite assignments, and how you have to make things happen, you can't "wait to be discovered", if you want to make it in the industry. Yulia also talks about the problematic behaviours of many journalists in the travel industry, who subject local communities to the Western gaze and "come, take and leave" without so much as a "hello".  It's Yulia's strong morals and her "humble approach" to locals that gained her the trust of and access to a nomadic community in Jordan.
