“Full disclosure, I’m a big Astros and McHugh fan, so I was likely going to enjoy this to some degree regardless. I did and then some. This is a superb podcast. Many podcasts get stale after an hour and I don’t revisit, but this is fresh.
What makes this so refreshing is it’s not just about baseball. It’s actually a small element of it. They don’t talk much about games and what’s going on in the game. It’s about the people who make up the game. In a day where MLB does an awful job letting fans in and marketing their players this podcast gives fans a nice look at the players, writers and coaches who you see playing the game.
You learn about what they’re passionate about outside of the game: their families, charities, music and many other interesting topics. Their stories about being in the minors are always enjoyable as well.
I’ve always appreciated McHugh, but wasn’t sure how he’d do with this. He does a great job asking the questions fans want to hear and haven’t heard and has some great guests. The Doolittle, Bregman, McCullers and Passan interviews are great. Passan actually told a funny story about first meeting McHugh and plugged his book, which led me to buy it.
My only complaint, I wish Collin had time to do more podcasts. Well done Collin, I look forward to more episodes.”
