Great guests, too much Twitter
The guests are great and I respect Daum’s thoughts, but she too often derails a good conversation by bringing it back to Twitter controversies that neither the guests nor I have any background on or interest in. I found the episode on trans kids very complex, nuanced and compassionate, until Meghan derailed the convo to ask why trans activists on twitter act so “unhinged.” It was a jarring shift in tone and depth when the guest never spoke about her trans-identified patients in those terms. Similar derailing of the convo on the machinery of identity politics to talk at length about the Cuties Twitter controversy. This podcast is in many ways better than many lefty podcasts that just point out how dumb people online are, which makes it more frustrating when it turns into a rehashing of whatever online controversy is making the rounds that day. I’d like to hear an interview where Daum doesn’t use the guest’s remarks to make a point about how some people on the internet are wrong.

More reviews of The Unspeakable Podcast
As a fan of her writing, I subscribed a few months ago, but just now started to listen regularly. The conversations and the questions are thoughtful and really interesting. The guests are very well chosen. Listening reminded me how starved I am for this kind of content.

What a treat this podcast is. I look forward to it each week. Meghan Daum is intelligent and thoughtful and has good interview skills. This podcast speaks to the knowing that life and situations are complex and we cannot, and should not, stand for labels or live in echo chambers.
