Meghan Daum is Alive
If you’ve landed on Meghan Daum’s podcast, you’re likely interested in critical investigations of current cultural, political, or literary topics. This is exactly that, but more. In a market-driven intellectual economy (ha), it‘s all too easy for your “nuanced” or “contrarian” thinkers to flounder in their respective contrarian poses, and in effect have the same conversation—dressed in a different controversy, political sphere, or context—over and over again. I’ve lost interest in many writers and podcasts for this reason. (Though I empathize! It’s all too easy to do this! And it sells!) Meghan, on the other hand, fairly consistently delivers with unexpected guests and questions. Listening to her podcast is akin to journeying alongside a friend who’s genuinely interested in understanding rather than posing (or maintaining The Brand), in being rather than clinging to things past. I’m grateful to get to listen, and I hope—it is, after all, quite difficult—that Meghan continues to invite us into her living, exploring mind.

In a world of no-nuanced content, it’s such a pleasure to listen to the nuanced, often refreshingly contrary insights of Meghan Daum. I’ve read her columns, her nonfiction, her essays, and now I get to hear her kick around ideas and news and politics with other smart people. Always strong and...Read full review »
