TLDR: This is the best single resource for aspiring Cinematographers. I’ll scour the internet for hours to find a single nugget of meaningful information, and here on The Wandering DP Podcast, Patrick passes them out constantly. I started listening to this podcast around episode 50, and was a bit confused with the breakdown format. I was in the car, and he was referring to images on his site, and honestly, it didn’t hold my attention. I was a bit lost, and it was totally my own fault. I found my way to his website a short while later, and I haven’t been the same since. I really appreciate the way he breaks down images into all of the different layers, and makes the technical aspect of cinematography approachable. The balance of HOW and WHY, in my opinion, is the constant struggle for a cinematographer of any level. In the beginning, when you don’t know how to do anything, the how is all that you focus on, and it can be difficult to step back and look at the why. I feel like Patrick balances the why and the how better than anyone I’ve come across. I’m very grateful for the amazing resource Patrick is providing to the community, and the sacrifices he’s made. I hope that this podcast continues to grow, and inspires others the way that it has inspired me.
