A libertine with doubts about Progress, and a reactionary who knows we cannot go back.
A great podcast, and a microcosm of the new political landscape. Behind any of the issues discussed on the show - immigration, identity politics, free speech, and pandemic hysteria etc. - what’s really up for debate, is the boomer truth regime. Toby, despite his better instincts, and evidence to the contrary, cannot abandon his fidelity to a post-war liberal project (a project many think has ended, or is on its last legs). He is also, and understandably, always on guard against the possible charge of engaging in conspiracy theory. Nick, dispossessed and self depreciating in equal measure, stares into the abyss of liberal modernity and manages to make it witty. Unlike Toby, he see’s the obvious conspiracy of our times; that power has direction without intention. One does not need to posit the existence of a shadowy cabal, to see how big-Pharma, big-Tech, and big-Gov, coalesce around a similar set of interests. The pair are a great double act, and steer a funny and friendly course through these strange times. A libertine with doubts about Progress, and a reactionary who knows we cannot go back. Long may it continue.

Brilliant round up of the week's nonsense, playfully but intelligently dissected and discussed. Great chemistry between Nick and Toby, and Will's section fits perfectly and is always interesting. Love the hour+ episodes. ☺️Read full review »
