“Good discussions of character arcs, and great interviews with actors about casting and how they perceived their roles. Quite disappointed though, that there was hardly any time, if any at all, dedicated to discussing the visual aspects of The Wire. The discussions I listened to could have pertained to a play, as aspects of the medium which implicitly made The Wire a TV show - i.e the editing, the cinematography, the costuming, choice of locations - were not really discussed at all. Having one presenter watch the show for the (brilliant) story is fine (and many people, sadly, watch tv for this purpose only), but it’s up to the other presenter to discuss the equally brilliant TV/film-specific visual storytelling techniques. It’s a crime that the transitions between sequences, relentlessly inventive at highlighting connections between storylines, are not discussed at all. (E.g a scene may end with a character sitting down alone, the next sequence begins with a different character at a different location, also sitting down alone.)”
