“I love the wire. I love talking about it. I watch it almost annually. Cool concept for a show but I feel you missed a couple things.
First, you almost touched on it but you didn’t deep dive, what makes the wire great is it’s view. You watch the sopranos and the mob is the “good” guys. The show is written to make the viewer side with the mafia and root against the feds. The wire makes no such distinction. The wire just shows people doing they thing. Is mcnulty good? Bad? Both? Is stringer bell bad? Good? Who are you asking?
This comes up again in your discussion of Rawls (rauls). Yes, he is probably racist. But the show doesn’t make him just a racist, because real people are rarely just racist or just a chef or just a dog owner. And he may be more a classist than a racist. Regardless, he is also a ranking police officer, a bureaucrat, etc.
anyway... cool show”
