This post is mostly spoiler free -- there is discussion of the romance but it does not reveal how they end up.
Courtney got me this book for my birthday last year because she absolutely loved it. I can see why. The male main character, Sawyer, is a fun creative type who is looking to find clarity in the world after abandoning the wedding of his best friend and ex-girlfriend. So, mid wedding, Sawyer leaves the chapel and heads towards the desert, finding himself in Canoodle, CA.
Fallon, the female main character, has her hands full. She is taking care of her grandfather who suffers from Alzheimer's, she is renovating the cabins her grandfather owns, and her is struggling with her current relationship with her partner. Things get a whole lot worse for Fallon when the guy who was incredibly rude to her on their first date many years ago strolls into town.
Fallon and Sawyer develop a friendship that eventually evolves into romance and when I say EVENTUALLY I mean it because they do not get together until 80% of the way into the book. The book was very long and most of the time is spent getting to know the characters.
I think Runaway Groomsman suffer from mislabeling. While this story definitely has the elements of a romance book, romance is not really the main plot of the book. This book focuses a lot on Sawyer's relationship with Sully (Fallon's grandfather) and Fallon's relationship with herself. The character develop is really excellent but I am not sure this entirely counts as a romance book.
Regardless, it is worth the read if you have time. I listened to the audiobook and I really enjoyed it in that format.
