Empathy is the best journalism
I think it is such a common (but silly) expectation that journalists/the media shouldn’t be too close to the story or else they’re biased and can’t be trusted. I think Sam’s investment and closeness to the players she interviews and the stories she reports are make this podcast so so good. Her empathy and willingness to follow each player’s lead is just so so important. So frequently in sports we forget players are human first. I find it incredibly important when Sam gives a player an out on a question or the chance to change the subject during an interview. While we’re invested in a story as fans, we’re not entitled to the details. Love love love this podcast and Sam!!!

Who doesn’t love Sammy Bananas? The perfect mix of funny/serious, soccer talk and some life talk. So happy that Sam is doing something she loves outside playing. Looking forward to learning more about women’s soccer outside the US!
