Finally found what I was looking for (even in this empty universe)
Listened to at least 3 episode-by-episode podcasts following season 1 of True Detective before finding this one. Lo and behold, my search is over! The first season of the TV anthology is so multilayered, only a podcast as thoughtful as this one can really do it justice. The hosts go way beyond plot recaps and talk about performances and direction (though that's in there too.) But these guys also have a really strong appreciationg for narrative, symbolism, and critical analysis that helps listeners delve deep into the lore of the show. Sound overly profound? Not so, as the hosts somehow manage to keep things light. They're both likeable and funny, and make even the darkest monologues of Rust Cohle seem not so depressing thanks to their even approach and upbeat delivery.

Then they go off on...Read full review »
