Critique on Andy Stanley Podcast
I’m glad you addressed this. At the same time your comment regarding same sex couples being able to be living as Christians is hugly dangerous. Christians are known by their fruit, which is in the context of telling us to beware of false prophets. First, as it relates to your comments regarding Andy’s points at the end of his message, twisting words that apply to Scripture is the same thing the adversary has done from the beginning of time and being able to discern that is necessary - which you are doing - but scripture does tell us to beware. That would be an appropriate message here. Next, same sex attracted people and who are living in same sex relationships and are professing to be following Jesus would be those who fall under bad fruit - and they are self decieved; it’s a duplicitous heart. You are right you don’t know their heart, but you can see the results of this area in their life. It is disordered related to the design of creation and outside of God’s command and purpose for humanity; it is sin and needs to be called that. And yes, I have sin in my life that needs to be addressed, the difference, I am not twisting scripture to make it fit my desires and will (bad fruit) I am trying to surrender my life to what I’m told in Scripture. Also, another factor that comes into play around a comment like same sex couples being Christians is the witness of the Spirit. I’ve met other people before who have not told me they were a believer. But I perceived sense of it. It came out later that the person was, or I’ve asked a person who might know them. How did I know? Because the Spirit witnesses it to me. Same sex relationships are living for self and their will. And there should be a sense of being able to discern the Spirit of God in their life and it’s much more than just being a nice person who is kind to people.
