May 3rd marks World Press Freedom Day. A day declared by the United Nations in 1993 to raise awareness about the importance of press freedom. Each year, Reporters Without Borders analyzes the state of journalism in countries and territories around the world. The organization says safety for journalists is on the decline in a majority of the world today.
