“What absolutely brilliant, fast-paced and sophisticated silliness brimming with quips, puns, sarcasm, satire, unpredictable segues, and plenty o’ tiki kitsch in every episode. However, please note that this brand of humor (alternative) will not entertain all audiences.
Tiki TV is a kin to its predecessors, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sea Lab, and Space Ghost: Coast To Coast. Low budget alternative comedy, yet a large cult following. It just goes to show that a big budget does not necessarily equal a successful show.
Steeped in the exotic music of Martin Denny and Les Baxter, the episodes consist of Johnny-Johnny, the fez-topped bartender-pharmacist, (think the witty Alton Brown from Food Network, only mixing drinks) who mixes a “prescription” as quickly as Dr. Tiki can write one, usually to remedy a madcap predicament. Of course, the lovely Lala nicely balances the comedy trio with her intoxicating cocktail goddess demeanor.
One episode involves a lampshade-topped Drinkbot, created by Lala, that steals the “lime” light (ha ha) away from Johnny-Johnny’s bartending domain. The all-knowing Drinkbot lets the fame of cocktail-mixing perfection go to its hard drive, and after self-destructing, it runs off madly to destroy large buildings, a la King Kong style. Thankfully, Johnny-Johnny returns to his rightful place behind the bar, and all is well once again on Tiki TV. lol
Another plot involved a mysterious cloud of London Fog that settles over the Tiki bar! A British man appears with it, along with a host of zany clichés. Dr. Tiki writes a prescription for a London Fogcutter, and included are step-by-step instructions on how to mix one. In five goofy minutes the fog is cut by simply mixing the perfect cocktail, and again, all is well on the enchanting Tiki TV.
This podcast calls for some Tiki TV paraphernalia (t-shirts, cocktail glasses, etc.) so fans can support the show. In fact, I will send some “tiki mail” their way right now….lol”
