In our fourth episode Gordon May, Royal Enfield historian, Author, Overland Traveller and our host for this episode speaks with three riders from South Africa who have had numerous adventures and fascinating experiences on their Classic motorcycles. Joining him in this episode are
Tania Ferreira - A South African businesswoman, adventure seeker, and Royal Enfield Classic rider from Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape). She enjoys travelling, meeting new people, different foods and cultures. She learned how to ride a motorcycle at a farm outside Bedford, South Africa and fell in love with the feeling of absolute freedom when riding motorcycles. Seeing the pictures of the Royal Enfield motorcycles riding through the snow walls of Baralacha Pass and the beautiful Himalayan landscape - she was sold on the trip to India, as this was right up her alley being such an adventurist soul. She invested in a Royal Enfield Classic as preparation for the trip to the Himalayas, and eventually fell in love with her Royal Enfield Classic and to this day still enjoys riding and around the countryside on her motorcycle! Tania lives for adventure and freedom, and (in her own words) for her “time becomes timeless” when she’s riding her Royal Enfield Classic. A very cool mom to her two lovely kids, she enjoys riding with them and her husband.
Herman Martinus - He can be generally spotted zipping around Cape Town, or winding down the coast on his Royal Enfield Classic 500. He decided to buy his Classic after spending some time riding one in the Himalayas all over Nepal. Being surrounded by Royal Enfield motorcycles all around during that adventure certainly added to the nudge. After returning back to South Africa he managed to land himself a Desert Storm and has been loving the overall feel and the thump of the machine. He has been working on planning a long adventure road trip through Africa on his Classic.
Elias Basson: Hailing from Stellenbosch, one of the old heritage towns in South Africa, known for its natural beauty and oak-lined avenues, Cape Dutch architecture, history and culture and wine routes, Elias instantly connected with the timeless charm that the Classic stood for and matched well with his city. As an engineer, he was awed by the simplistic design and the proven mechanicals of the motorcycle and that prompted him to fall in love with it. He picked up his Maroon Classic 500 from an 82-year-old rider who had to give up riding, and he kickstarted his brand new adventure stint with the time-tested motorcycle.
Do join us for the next Timeless Classic episode when we speak to more riders across the world and get to hear their interesting stories and experiences on their Royal Enfield Classic motorcycle.
