TLDR: Someone Get This Man a Sponsorship
So context: I’m an American girl with a Canadian mom, and growing up I’ve really enjoyed the bits of hockey I got, but it was way easier to get football here in the states, and my family are big into the Packers. So my mom and sisters and I were kind of out of luck, until I stumbled back into it (It’s a long and dull story.) about two months ago. I started watching games on the regular, and read up on the rules, but I felt like there was a whole level of the game I was missing. I love analyzing and breaking down the minutiae of a topic, and I didn’t want to stay on the surface-level with hockey either. There’s so much more to the sport. So began a frustrating search for the podcast to help me take my knowledge to the next level. I downloaded every single show Apple had available and listened to them all, so believe me when I say: you are not going to find anything better than ‘Tip of the Ice-burgh’. The Nicks speak with enough contextual vernacular that you start to feel comfortable with definitions, but I never felt once like I was being spoken down to, or worse, like I was on the outside of an inside joke and no one really wanted to take the time to fill me in. They’re also incredible at saying it like it is. If there are elements of the Pen’s game that need attention, they tell you, but they aren’t flighty and sensationalist like ‘so many’ others in sports media tend to be. I laughed aloud when I was told to “sit down” during the second big streak of losses, because everyone else was acting like the sky was falling (And so was I.), but Nick B. keeps it real. And that’s so incredibly refreshing. The statistics and analytics are fantastic. I do wish the Nicks would go the tiniest bit further into breaking down the good and the bad of certain unnamed player’s games, so the people like me would know better what to look for. But that’s icing on the cake. The only other piece of critique I have is audio consistency. I never have a problem hearing Nick B. But Nick H. Is very obviously using a different set-up (I haven’t watched the YouTube show, so I don’t know what it looks like.), and it’s definitely harder to hear him. Thank you both for hosting a great show, for keeping it fun, and for helping me navigate this first perilous plunge into the icy waters that are the NHL. You’re tremendous.

Must listen twice a week to catch up on our favorite team! The guys do a great job of not just giving us the facts, but telling it like it is no matter what’s happening in the season.
