“Just to start out with the positives: this podcast was incredibly helpful for me as a young conservative Christian who had received a mostly-adequate Sex Ed Talk from mom, but was trying to get more healthy exposure to sexual content from a Christian and non-graphic perspective, because sex freaked me the heck out when I got engaged. (Still working on it, tbh.)
The first half of this podcast is a great resource, and my fiancé even offered to listen to it too when he heard it was helpful to me! (he gets so many bonus points) Unfortunately the second half/later episodes get repetitive, and a bit tedious. We get it, “Love and Respect” is bad. You don’t have to beat a (super) dead horse. Essentially this podcast has become “deconstruction of marriage/general Christian teachings” and that’s not what I came here for so I stopped listening. I also thought the first half-ish was super positive towards men, but as it’s gone on… it’s become less so. (fiancé quit even before I did, but we did talk about what we both gained from it!) I genuinely wish there were more episodes dedicated to engaged people who are curious and just want more info. More reader questions!! (those were my favorite segments in earlier episodes, and they stopped doing them in later episodes.) Just go back to the early stuff, actually TEACHING your own material and not just calling out everyone else. (there’s a time and a place for deconstruction, absolutely, but honestly? No one else is *teaching* this stuff. So please, please go back to teaching.)
I also highly recommend Sheila’s book “The Good Girl’s Guide to Sex.” Some outdated language, but other than that, solid advice!”
