“I used to live in Tokyo and was looking for. Podcast to help me feel connected to my former life. The hosts seem genuine in their admiration for Japanese culture but something rubs me the wrong way. Amongst foreigners in Japan, there can this strange need to use your knowledge of the language and culture to feel superior over other foreigners and even other Japanese people. The female hosts story of not knowing how to use a yukata and then learning and immediately judging everyone sees doing it wrong is a great example of this. They talk a lot about the best sushi, the best ramen, the best neighborhood but the truth is no one really knows what the best anything is in Tokyo. It’s just too big. Better to humble yourself and not feel like you got all the answers.”
