Exactly what I’ve been looking for
I’m a halachic Jew but was raised as a nominal Christian. I’ve been getting in touch with my Jewishness recently: I observed the Holy Days this year, pray modeh ani, recite Shema twice daily (at minchah and Kriat Shema), and keep a Reform-ish Shabbat. I guess I’m becoming what Daube termed a “New Testament Jew.” With my reading Fredricksen, Dunn, Phelan, and Sanders, among others, I now KNOW Christian Jews need not relinquish their Peoplehood, traditions, teachings, or scriptures in order to follow the LORD. We, New Testament Jews, are beholden to Avraham, Yitzhak, Ya’akov, and Y’shua. NOT Paul and the Greeks who created Christianity. Just as importantly, we have to disavow Messianic “Judaism” as right-wing Evangelicalism lest we do violence against our People.
