Description
11th - 17th September Wrestling History! September 11th 1995: WWE Raw and WCW Nitro went head-to-head for the very  first time in the now infamous Monday Night War. On Raw  the newly-turned heel British Bulldog took on Razor  Ramon, and Shawn Michaels defended the Intercontinental  Title against Psycho Sid. Whilst over on Nitro, Hulk Hogan  defended the World Heavyweight Championship against  Lex Luger, and Randy Savage faced Scott Norton. September 12th 2006: For the first time ever, an ECW card was held in the iconic  Madison Square Garden in New York City. In the main  event, ECW Champion The Big Show defeated Sabu in an  Extreme Rules match. September 13th 1998: Three teams of three competitors competed for the very  first time in the ‘War Games’ cage match at WCW Fall  Brawl ’98. Team WCW, Diamond Dallas Page, “Rowdy”  Roddy Piper & The Warrior defeated NWO Hollywood  (Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart & Stevie Ray) and NWO  Wolfpac (Kevin Nash, Sting & Lex Luger). As a result of  scoring the winning pinfall, DDP received a shot at  Goldberg’s WCW World Heavyweight Championship at  Halloween Havoc the following month. September 14th 1999: On an episode of SmackDown, Vince McMahon defeated  Triple H to become the new WWE Champion. The win  made the then 54-year old McMahon the oldest WWE  champion in history. He would go on to vacate the title the  following Monday. September 15th  1995: WCW fires Steve Austin. Austin was out with a triceps  injury at the time when he was sent his termination notice  via FedEx mail. Eric Bischoff, Vice President of WCW at the  time, reportedly didn’t see Austin as a marketable  performer. That aged well September 16th 1996: Sting turned his back on WCW. This was part of the ongoing storyline involving a ‘fake Sting’. The Stinger cut a  promo telling his fellow stars and the fans off for doubting  him. This led him into his famous gimmick change into ‘The  Vigilante Sting’ draped in black with his Crow makeup and  trusty baseball bat around a month later. It is also worth  noting that it was on this episode of Nitro that Sean  Waltman (better known as X-Pac or the 1-2-3 Kid) made  his Nitro debut as Syxx. September 17th 2017:  Legendary former wrestler, manager and commentator  Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan passed away at the age of 72.
