Micro aggressions & lack of understanding victims
There are statements made by these gentlemen that make me so sad when I listen to the podcast, it’s distracting from the sadness of the stories. The podcast is littered with micro aggressions, and some subtle homophobia. Unfortunately, the hosts feel like the kinda of guys that would roll their eyes at you if you tried to explain, although I could be wrong, they may be more open minded or reflective. But they just don’t seem to realize how hurtful they are or out of touch. An example would be in the Craigslist Killer episode. The Markoff had approx 16 pairs of panties under his bed, and one of the men said if the women were alive the women would have come forward with the assault that presumably took place. Most women listen probably rolled their eyes or dropped jaw. Most sexual assault is never reported, ESPECIALLY by women taking place in the sex industry. These women are robbed, abused and raped all the time and never report. They just don’t seem to really understand victims. There is also quite a bit of homophobia, masked, for example, under subtle ‘we’re not gay’ jokes. I like their format, but it feels like an unsympathetic True Crime Garage knockoff. Maybe rethink some of these issues, guys?
