However, I’d like to point out that the book referred to in the first episode is not “a book about migrating birds”, and is in fact a very important piece of Sudanese literature. Tayeb Salih was one of the great Arab writers of the 20th century. This highlights the value of cultural understanding: Gad didn’t get himself out of that situation because he’d just happened to read some book about birds.”
