Slate finally took Trump seriously ... then overcompensated HARD
I’m a big fan of many Slate podcasts, particularly those that deep dive into one particular topic at length—Whistlestop, the Serial Spoilers, etc. But this one has me at a loss. The most recent episode I listened to spent a good five minutes talking about whether or not President Trump could negotiate Mexico paying for a wall to be built. This after months of Trump being primarily dismissed in most Slate podcasts. It’s as if they realized they had to start taking him seriously and then overcompensated. There are so many incredibly interesting things happening in this primary season, and I find myself disappointed in the fact that there is an entire podcast on Trump, rather than an examination of WHY establishment candidates in both parties are struggling to gain traction with voters. It feels more like an academic dissection of something that happened 20 years ago, or a character on House of Cards, rather than a conversation about a racist, sexist xenophobic demagogue who has received over 8 million votes. Meanwhile, the socialist from Vermont has 6 million votes and he is barely mentioned on any of the Slate podcasts.
