Profoundly Beautiful
It has been decades since I picked up a work by Thomas Merton. This podcast, featuring one of his students, has brought me back to those days when I first marveled at Merton’s astounding spiritual insights. For me, adulthood, work, and material considerations eventually held sway in my mind and I lost touch with the part of myself that Merton’s writings had brought alive. I attended a church in which ugly, right-wing politics eventually drove away gentler parishioners, including, finally, myself. These podcasts are a light in the darkness, leading listeners into a sanctuary of peace. It is a balm for the soul and reminds fallen-away Catholics like me of the divine genius that lies at the core of our religion. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

More reviews of Turning to the Mystics with James Finley
James Finley speaks the truth of our experience. We are sustained through all of our lives, the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful! God comes to us in whatever we experience.

Ever since I read a Merton’s Palace of Nowhere I’ve known that James Finley spoke a language that my soul understood. Really looking forward to this. The stories of the interviewer could have been my own. I feel like I’ve found my people! Thank you to all of you.

What a deeply transformative experience it has been. I read back over my journal today and I couldn’t...Read full review »
