“Last week I sat by my grandfather’s deathbed (well soon to be anyway) as he passed away from this life. As we passed the time awkwardly listening to his death rattle cough he turned to me and whispered something.
I leaned closer, “What is it grandpa? What do you want?”
He whispered again. I leaned closer.
“Two Girls…”
“EWW Grandpa! I’m not bringing some poor women in here to have sex with a dying man, that’s creepy and gross. Especially with Grandma in the room.”
Grandma who was before this crying quietly now started bawling. I handed her a Kleenex.
Grandpa grabbed my arm with surprising strength, “NO! No. Two Girls…One Ghost…”
“What Grandpa? You mean that Podcast all my cool and hip friends are telling me about? What about it?”
He nodded. “Play it for me please…I want to hear it before I *COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH*…Y’know.”
I could see how much it meant to him. Tears in his eyes. The pure joy he probably had never felt since he was a child. Which is why what I had to say next hurt so much.
“Sorry Grandpa but I’m at my data limit and didn’t subscribe to that podcast - so like using my data way out here in the Boonies where you’re at would really kill me right now. I’m pretty broke. Don’t you and Grandma have Wifi yet?”
My Grandpa coughed for like two more minutes before responding,
“Yes. We do... I’m dying now.”
Then my Grandpa died. It was surprisingly peaceful considering all the ax wounds.
When I got home I subscribed to TGOG and listened to all their episodes. Now I understand why it meant so much for grandfather to have that bit of joy in his last moments. TGOG is hilarious, heartfelt and will make you a better person. Every minute you listen increases your financial wealth by a ratio of 4% multiplied by the number of ears you use to listen with. I’m so glad my grandpa recommended this podcast. RIP GRAMPS”
