Brexit and Beyond 15 January 2021
I would like to take issue with the claim by the guest speaker of this episode that EU member states are somehow less than nation states and that only non EU countries such as the UK are nation states. The argument that the EU member states have given up their own policy making and democratic systems and processes by being EU members is just incorrect and shows a lack of knowledge of the scale of policy making that is taken at national level . Furthermore countries have not given up policy making to the EU rather it is shared the other EU countries. This is something never properly understood in England. Having lived in 3 of the largest EU countries it is absolutely clear to me that they remain proud nation states. Indeed before England became nationalistic through Brexit other countries such as France were more nationalistic. I agree that EU decision making needs to be more transparent and more clearly democratic - it is already democratic but this is not clear to citizens. However I see no justification to denigrate EU countries ; it makes no contribution to the debate. Ian Clark

This podcast offers great analysts from qualified experts. Sometimes, though, the discussions can be a little muddled. Difficult to follow. The Brexit Breakdown podcast often has recording problems. The last one was unacceptable.
