“Thank you for interviewing Shauna Niequist, someone who has been so influential for many of us. I appreciated your honest conversation with her. One area I would hope for growth would be for the host to ask more open-ended questions, such as “how would you describe this season of life?” Vs “are you having a midlife crisis??” to which Shauna tried to be very open and gracious as we women do when asked such ill-formed questions. At another point Shauna had to answer flat out “no” and almost defend herself against the question that was asked. Not sure if this is part of the dynamic between a man interviewing a woman, given our current cultural norms. To me the art of interviewing seems to be more like an invitation, a drawing out, rather than asking someone if they fit into one category or another. And sometimes it’s both/and as Shauna has written so much about. Keep up the great work and keep growing!”
