“Jonathan Freedland and Yonit Levi are engaging, insightful, well-informed presenters, who deliver serious subjects leavened with wry seriousness and warm irony.
One of Jonathan’s recent remarks on the war in Ukraine resonated with me. The gist of it was the tension between Jewish sympathy for the current plight of the country’s multi-ethnic, albeit nationalist, population, and its violent, not wholly absent now, historical anti-Semitism. A book that, among other things, describes the origins of this dichotomy is Ben Judah’s ‘In Wartime: Stories from Ukraine’.
