“Found this podcast through family ghosts. I’m truly interested in the story but I don’t know if I can finish it because I’m finding it overly meta to the point of frustration. I hope that it ends with her writing and performing a dramatization of the narrative that she lands on because these endless conversations about story structure feel tiring and self indulgent. Which is not to criticize Jan’s grieving process it’s just hard to listen to as someone without a personal stake in the story, and in a time where stories are more often reduced to headlines. I just want to know what happens without the narrative dissection. It’s frustrating to hear so much talk about narrative with third party story tellers when there’s so much truth out there to be found by asking people involved direct and honest questions. It’s a very interesting concept, just not journalistic enough for me.”
