“I subscribed based on the feature on the Family Ghost podcast. I listen to all ranges of podcasts, about 20 hours per week, and I rarely feel compelled to write reviews. That being said...
I was draw in by the premise, especially as someone raised by a single mother, whose father was largely absent and neglectful post-divorce, and whom I’m not sure I really ever knew (we don’t speak). My biggest fear is he will die before I’ve “worked through” in therapy how to let him back in, or if I even want to. I’ve also been working on my own way of putting my story to paper. But enough about me...
This podcast, SOLELY based on the first two episodes, is just okay. I know there is a four year “journey” (haha- episode callback) and a lot more to be told, but so far I’m not gripped, and am confused on how I should feel about Jan Character. I am currently equal parts sympathetic and frustrated, mainly with her inability as someone SO TALENTED and smart and a self described feminist (which she alludes to in the pod) to be assertive and allow herself to be ignored or unheard, and I think she may be a tad bit too conscious of her narration style, so at times she comes across as disingenuous (to my ears). But at the same time that’s the appeal of her and her “journey”, I suppose. I just want to scream “SPEAK UP FOR YOURSELF!” or “GO DEEPER!”.
So I have high hopes for the complete “project”, and have great empathy for the Jan character, I’m just hoping we get to see a shinier spine and a stronger voice in the episodes to come. I’m rooting for you!
I promise to revise my review at the conclusion. :)”
