Ben Coccio’s ZERO DAY and Gus Van Sant’s ELEPHANT each encountered controversy, though only one would win the Palme D’Or while the other is now mainly available on YouTube. We’ll talk about the films’ very different approaches to one of the 20th century’s defining tragedies, and where (or if) we draw the line between insight and exploitation.
