“I'm torn on this podcast but still find it to be valuable. Kevin Goldstein conducts an excellent interview. Weather it's about baseball or another topic he does a great job in asking questions and getting out of the way and listening.
But to me Jason is the star of the podcast. Jason is quite intelligent and very funny but his subtle sense of humor is often ruined by Kevin feeling the need to laugh out loud at every little thing instead of trusting the listener to get the joke on their own. Not every humorous comment or observation warrants an laugh out loud moment but Kevin feels the need to provide a constant laugh track to the podcast.
It often feels like the uncool older guy who tries desperately to fit in with the hipper and younger guy. Which comes across as forced at best, awkward and cringe worthy at worst.
Kevin also cannot pronounce certain letters properly. I don't know if you'd call it a traditional lisp but whatever it is, it's unfortunate and a bit distracting. That said they both really know their baseball and when Kevin is just being natural and not trying too hard the show is informative and entertaining. When he tries too hard to be "goofy" and entertaining is when the show is at its worst. Jason is always good and to me really makes the show. I do think Kevin is talented and relatively smart and wish he would just be himself instead of trying to constantly act 10 years younger and win Jason's and the audiences approval. I would like him more if he would just be the middle aged baseball and video game nerd that plays the straight man and leave the humor to Jason as well as the guests, who are usually excellent as well.”
