“The ‘control’ series made me furious. I’m so glad these women and children were eventually saved but there is a MASSIVE disconnect between the police and family court. No matter how much evidence you have about an abusive partner, the family court continually order a child back in to the custody of an abusive parent, without the healthy parent there to protect them. It’s all well and good to encourage women to leave abusive situations but then the family court ignore all the abuse. I completely understand why women don’t leave abusive relationships. I did, and now my child is forced to spend days at a time with the abusive parent. Court sanctioned. It’s coercive control by the very system set up to protect children.”
