Amazing stories born from randomness
TL:DR this is a great actual play RPG podcast with a group of entertaining people who craft fun stories with heart. VRE offers a bit more that your usual RPG podcast. They change system every season which lets you experience lots of different types of RPG and they keep the seasons to a punchy 10 to 20 episodes. This gives plenty of time for a great story without dragging on too much. For those of you who need things even shorter, there are plenty of entertaining one shots to enjoy too. If you don’t like characters, system, setting etc. for one series, you can easily pick up a new one. The randomness of the title is baked into the characters they create and the stories they tell. Randomness doesn’t mean that no thought is applied, it’s more that the dice give the players characters which they may not have typically made which they’ll then flesh out and bring to life. It gives the GM the seed of a story which they will fill with random interesting npcs. I really enjoy the character creation episodes which gives a nice intro to the system and the shows the players having to make sense of the random attributes and skills their characters have. The After Shows allow the GM and players to share all the randomness what went into shaping the story; it’s amazing how they create such cohesive and compelling stories from distinctly random starting points. Don’t know where to start, then head to VRE.show and use the random season selector. There really is something for everyone here (unless you don’t like fun, in which case you should probably move on).

I love the amount of “real vibes” your podcast has . Not only for taking on modern problems in a fun easy to digest way, but staying away from the meta game and playing your characters how you think they should be played based in information you didn’t even get to decide.

All 4 of these folks are geniuses. Listen to and enjoy this masterpiece, and then seek out all their other stuff. You won’t be disappointed.

It's so weird hearing Logan curse on this podcast since SBJ doesn't allow cursing on ISE. But it's cool to hear some of my favorite ISE co host in another light. Keep up the good work guys.Read full review »
