Delightful
Love this podcast. Glad Vox has extended their discussions to podcasts. The self-identified criticism of the first episode was spot on, and the second episode was more in line with what I expected from the promo clip. I thought the segment intros were totally fine — good to get some statistical context when it’s useful, even if some might perceive it as droning on. I’d guess most listening to this podcast appreciate it, and, if it doesn’t take up *too* much time, those that aren’t interested (but still listening to the podcast) will gloss over it. Health-care segment was dynamite. Gun control segment was good, but started to get a bit more speculative on the motives of individuals at the expense of describing some of the different options people are actually talking about. Motives are important, so I liked that, but some of the actual policy options could have used some flushing out. I would either make a longer cast, or potentially do one less topic? Hard call, but it’s very early in the life of this podcast. Very intriguing research paper on universal pre-k. Big topic in NYC right now, will definitely have to read up. Guests would be great! But not need to force it.

It can't be understated how valuable it is to listen to smart people discuss issues in significant depth. I'm with Ezra: the longer the better. There are plenty of shorter options. The show tends to wander quite a bit and the swearing seems somewhat unprofessional for a non-comedy. ...Read full review »
