Officials kept trying to make contact with the man until around 1 a.m. Tuesday, when the Special Tactics and Response team heard what was believed to be a gunshot, and smoke coming from the home. The team entered the home to try and rescue him, at which point the sheriff's office said he fired a gun at authorities.
Charlotte City Council heard from people who live and work in Uptown. For many, they say safety continues to be a pressing concern.
