33. Demystifying Interior Design: Debunking Common Myths and Misconceptions
Listen now
Description
I love feeling that positive momentum when projects are underway and things are going well. This week has been a rollercoaster of emotions in several of my projects, does that happen to you? Sometimes it seems like everything is upside down, but suddenly, the pieces of the puzzle start to fit together and things begin to flow. I want to take this moment to talk about something that I'm passionate about: the world of interior design. Have you ever wondered what lies behind the lies and myths surrounding this fascinating field? I want to debunk some of the most common myths: 1. "White makes a space look larger": While light tones can create a sense of spaciousness, it's not exclusively white that achieves this. Lighting, space, and other elements also play a crucial role in the perception of a room's size. 2. "Interior design is only for wealthy people": Nothing could be further from the truth! Interior design is accessible for all budgets. Hiring a professional can even save money in the long run by avoiding costly mistakes. 3. "Large furniture makes a space look smaller": Actually, large furniture can provide scale and cohesion to a space, making it feel more cozy rather than overwhelming. 4. "Interior designers only care about aesthetics": False! Good interior design balances both aesthetics and functionality. It's crucial to design spaces that are visually appealing and practical for living or working. 5. "Minimalism means having empty, undecorated spaces": Minimalism is about simplifying and reducing clutter, but it can still include carefully selected decorative elements to create visual interest. 6. "Small spaces can never be luxurious": Wrong! Small spaces can be luxurious and sophisticated with clever design and high-quality materials. 7. "Interior design trends are eternal": Trends change over time. It's important to design spaces that reflect the individual's personality and style rather than blindly following trends. 8. "Interior design is just decorating": Not at all! Interior design involves much more than simply choosing furniture and wall colors. It includes space planning, material selection, lighting, and much more. 9. "Interior designers can transform any space quickly": While quick changes can be made, truly exceptional interior design requires time, planning, and careful execution. Thank you so much for tuning in to listen. Miriam Prada A bit about me... I am a Building Engineer and interior designer, specializing in high-end projects. With 15 years of experience in the design industry, I've had the privilege of collaborating with a wide range of clients, including developers, builders, real estate agents, entrepreneurs, and private clients. I've successfully completed over 25 projects in seven different countries (Spain, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, India, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and Switzerland) and have had the pleasure of working with clients from 11 nationalities. My most valuable project to date exceeds £50 million, and one of my notable achievements was designing a development of 16 apartments where the penthouse set a historic record as the highest-priced one-bedroom per square meter in the history of Westminster, London. Currently based in London, I continue working on multiple local and international projects. Leveraging the capabilities of the digital world, I've produced and launched this podcast, 'Atelier Prada,' where, in a relaxed and colloquial way, I address various topics in the world of interior design with the goal of sharing some of the knowledge acquired over these years.
