I’m here because of the triggered reviewer...
Someone seemed pretty triggered by this podcasts MENTION of cultural appropriation, and honestly I decided to listen to the podcast simply because that petty review. I’m glad I did because it’s been a great way to learn about different types of magic by listening while going on my nightly walk. I haven’t listened to all of the episodes yet, but so far the only mention of appropriation I’ve heard was in the episode on chaos magic where they are literally just talking about Phil Hine’s later critique on how early chaos magic didn’t find the cultural/historical context of symbols/deities/whatever to be important. I thought it was handled pretty well and didn’t come off as being what the aforementioned reviewer called SJW bologna, but they may have been referring to another episode. Regardless, it’s quite ironic they were so sensitive to a word that they rage quit the podcast. I think other reviewers do a great job of mentioning the pros and cons. I kind of agree that the host doesn’t let their guest talk enough, but if I’m gonna be honest, I would probably be the same way if I had a podcast.

This podcast has an excellent balance of sincerity and skepticism. I love the way the ideas are presented because these episodes give an excellent peripheral bedrock for further investigation of the subjects discussed. Truly a unique series. Thank you for making it!

Douglas shows an extreme level of intellectual curiosity and wide breadth of knowledge across numerous topics. He has a way of breaking down confusing, abstruse (i.e., “occult”) subject matter into accessible pieces. The episode on “materialism” was my first encounter and I was blown away by the...Read full review »
