Sir Edmund Hillary

Description
Welcome to the What's Possible podcast our dive into the people who inspire us, how they achieved what they did, and what lessons we can all draw so that we can live the most interesting and full lives possible. My name's Paul Benson, financial planner at Guidance Financial services, and I’m joined by my colleague at Guidance, Crawford Ross. We’re both money guys. We help people build and protect their wealth and ensure they have long-term financial security. But the point of money is not to die as the richest person in the cemetery. Money is an enabler. Money gives you choices in life. There’s plenty of podcasts that tell you about contribution caps and imputation credits. They answer the “How”. But here at What’s Possible, we want to explore the “what” and the “why”. Without these pieces of the puzzle, the “how” isn’t of much value. This week we’re taking a look at Sir Edmund Hillary. Yes, he’s a Kiwi, but his impressiveness sufficiently outweighs that slight negative. I read a biography on Hillary at least a decade ago and found him to be an inspiring and super interesting guy. He's most famous of course for climbing Mount Everest, but there's a lot more that he did besides that. He suffered his fair share of tragedy too. This being the first episode of What's Possible, I’d better share with you  the plan of attack: I'm going to run you through a bit of a history on Hillary, his achievements, his failings, and various other bits and pieces that I've discovered in my research. Once that groundwork is laid out, Crawford and I are going to run through a series of questions that we will repeat in each episode, to consider what lessons we can take, and how they made it possible. Whilst this week the person we're featuring is no longer with us, and has international fame, neither of those features will always be the case. In future episodes we intend to look at a broad spectrum of people in areas such as humanitarian volunteering, travel, entrepreneurship, career changers, digital nomads, creators, and plenty more. Sometimes we might interview them to get their story direct from the horses mouth. Hope you enjoy!
