incredibly disappointing.
james barry was undeniably a trans man. he was not a woman. he kept his assigned gender at birth (agab) a secret his whole adult life, and if the woman who discovered it did not disregard his wishes (“in the event of his death, strict precautions should be adopted to prevent any examination of his person” & asked that he should be “buried in bedsheets without further inspection”.), we never would have known. not ONLY that, many people at his time *consistently* used he/him pronouns, even after his death & his agab was discovered. anyone alive today, with our modern knowledge of gender, calling him a woman is really gross & repeatedly misgendering him is just horrible.

Phenomenal research, great soundscape & mind-blowing stories. I can’t believe I’ve never read about many of these women.

This podcast is fascinating and tells the stories of many women from American History. The show is well researched with graphic descriptions and interesting facts that are both inthralling and educational. The hosts have lovely voices and a great hosting style.
