Shambolic reliance on mythology instead of fact
I really wanted to like this but I feared from the outset that Rob Reiner would cut corners on facts and I was right almost immediately. Aside from the clunky, half-scripted pseudo-conversation between O’Brien and Reiner, Reiner immediately launches into to historical cardinal sin that Kennedy-ites always fall into: sugar-coating Kennedy’s disastrous decision making during the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion. Reiner literally repeats the lie that Kennedy refused to provide air support and that the CIA lied to him. This is only half true. Kennedy did provide air support…and cancelled the SECOND WAVE of air support only. This notion that Kennedy was a passive observer to the Bay of Pigs is just not true, and popular history conveniently ignores this every time in order to 1) allow history to paint Kennedy as a Dove instead of the Hawk he really was, and 2) turn a blind eye to this ineptitude that led directly to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Only two episodes in, and the series has the very bad stink of false narrative spinning, not valuable historical investigation. Honestly, if you think Rob Reiner is the guy to give you an honest examination of the most perplexing historical event in US history, you are looking in the wrong place.

I love that the soundtrack sounds like an episode of Barnaby Jones or similar show.
