“Many (too many?) podcasts consist of unedited conversations between two or more people. Why Oh Why is different, and that difference is its strength. The show is, primarily, a radio show, and is built on the foundations of entertaining and engrossing radio reporting and storytelling.
Why Oh Why’s best shows are tightly edited, beautifully scored, and fascinating. She combines multiple threads to create a personal, but universal, whole, and seems to have no shortage of people in her life to contribute to the show with compelling stories, opinion, and data.
But Silenzi, the host, does not rest on the laurels of the traditional radio format. Her conversations with Randy blur the line between fiction and reality, and the honesty with which she shares the details of her life–romantic and otherwise–foster a listener relationship unlike similar shows such as This American Life or Radiolab (both clear ancestors of Why Oh Why).
Why Oh Why was one of the most exciting additions to my podcast catcher, and the weekly episodes have more than rewarded the time spent listening to them. I cannot recommend and endorse it more highly.”
