Out of touch and too nostalgic
I read the Little House books as a child and loved them, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized they are full of racism and promote the ideas of Manifest Destiny and white supremacy. The host claims to have come to the same conclusions, but she will not budge on her love for Laura. By the end of every episode, she has rationalized away all of the short comings in these books and made excuses for the ideas in them. These books were a product of their time— and that could be an interesting study into American philosophy and culture—but this is 2023. We cannot continue to willingly turn a blind eye to these sort of damaging ideas in the name of nostalgia. (Review based on the first 6 episodes.)

I was obsessed with the Little House books as a child. This podcast offers an amazing look at the origin and impact of these books. I am obsessed all over again.
