Lacks a nuanced perspective
For some reason historical issues aren’t allowed to be nuanced. I’m not saying the US treated the Native Americans rightly. Honestly they are probably the most deserving group of reparations in my opinion. However, Murdering 350 people is WRONG, tricking people out of their homes is wrong, BOTH native Americans and white settlers were wrong. But for some reason we just aren’t allowed to say that. That maybe no one was right…. Also asking one person about their experience in us history should not be used as a representation for US history education as a whole. I think it greatly depended on your teacher, district, state, etc. to suggest that because one person didn’t learn about it doesn’t mean others in the US didn’t. Also lots of people don’t find history interesting, maybe, just maybe when you’re 14 you didn’t have the perspective to understand how much these things mattered. Maybe you learned and then forgot it…
